The Dmanisi skull is one of five remarkable fossil skulls discovered in Dmanisi, Georgia, and classified as early Homo erectus. Estimated to be approximately 1.8 million years old, it is the most complete skull of a Pleistocene Homo species ever found—and the first complete adult hominin skull on record.
Described in a 2013 publication, this find revealed that early Homo species included adult individuals with relatively small braincases, yet body mass, stature, and limb proportions that fall within the lower range of modern human variation. It has been a key discovery in shaping our understanding of early human evolution.
