The dodo, now extinct, once inhabited the island of Mauritius near Madagascar. This large, flightless bird fell victim to overhunting by early mariners and colonists and was further devastated by the introduction of domestic animals such as dogs, cats, and pigs. By 1681, the species was extinct. The name "dodo" originates from early Dutch and Portuguese visitors to the island, who described the bird as sluggish and awkward in appearance.
This is an accurate reconstruction (not an original) of a dodo skull, based on CT scans of fossil remains.
Crafted in high-quality resin, this replica has the weight and texture of real bone—making it both visually impressive and satisfying to handle.
