Thriving during the Pleistocene Epoch, the dire wolf (Canis dirus) is one of the most famous prehistoric carnivores. Although similar in appearance to modern gray wolves, dire wolves were not their direct ancestors. They coexisted across North America for nearly 100,000 years, adapting to a range of environments from open plains and grasslands to forested mountain regions and the arid savannas of South America.
The dire wolf possessed a broader skull, more robust teeth, and shorter, thicker legs than today's wolves—suggesting they hunted large prey and had a powerful bite. Interestingly, their brain case was smaller compared to modern canines, making their skulls distinctly recognizable among fossil specimens.
This is a 2-part skull (separate cranium & jaw).
Crafted from high quality resin, the piece has a realistic weight and texture—so not only does it look incredible, it feels incredible to hold.
Proudly produced and assembled by hand in Western Australia.
